All animal babies arrive with the adaptations that suit them to their environments and the lives they will lead. For many, this is enough, and they live life "doing what comes naturally." From the outset, snakes are as fully equipped for life as their parents. Caterpillars automatically do what they must to become butterflies. Sharks are born looking like miniatures of their mothers and are ready to begin hunting on their own. For other animals, however, physical adaptations are not enough. Lions are born with the teeth, claws, potential speed and strength needed to capture and kill prey. But they must be taught to hunt.
