Some people think the definition of 'insect' is 'pesky.' Insects can pinch, sting, and eat their way into people's bad graces. But just as we're about to wish them all to the moon, we can be humbled to remember that insects are amazingly successful creatures. Three-fourths of all living animals are insects. And while there are 5,000 species of mammals, there are over a million species of insect! Would anyone be surprised if an insect thought people were pesky?
